Sarina Zhao

Sarina is undertaking a Bachelor of Music at The University of Melbourne, studying under the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts) on drums and percussion. She has been playing music for over 10 years, and completed VCE Music Contemporary Performance in 2023. She is now regularly performing around Melbourne as a part of many jazz trios/quartets, pop-rock and metal bands for shows and events, as well as playing for musical theatre productions in pit orchestras.

Despite her current blend of alternative rock and jazz-fusion, Sarina’s love of music comes from her classical roots in piano, as well as her experience with mallet and orchestral percussion performing with symphonic orchestras, and traditional auxiliary percussion in Afro-Cuban Latin ensembles. Sarina also has experience arranging and composing for both contemporary and orchestral ensembles, as well as working with DAWs and MIDIs in studio recording environments recording original songs.
